The Reluctant Corpse

THE RELUCTANT CORPSE

“Stewart Douglas could not, under any circumstances, be considered your average human being. He’d always been a fan of agony as long, of course, as it wasn’t his own.” Well, Stewart is the local mortician, and maybe he has a less than healthy interest in the job. Every community has its secrets, and Savannah, Georgia, is no exception. The questions  are: exactly what are those secrets, and who do they belong to?

Mary Charles introduces us to a community of characters, and although we do see the mortician at work, everything is comfortably tranquil, or so it seems. But strange things are afoot. Who can you trust? It may be best to let things rest, but events have their own momentum.

There is a foray into the antique art market, which gives the plot a subtle twist, and as the sinister undertone begins to take on real menace, you will be unable to put down this exciting suspense novel.

The Reluctant Corpse is the second book in the Casey series by Mary Charles. ISBN 1-904433-16-2.

“Set within the confines of Savannah and Southeast Georgia, The Reluctant Corpse confronts the reader with frightening images lurking just behind closed doors and stately homes.  Well written and enjoyable.”
William C. Harris Jr. (Savannah best-selling author of
Delirium of the  Brave and No Enemy But Time).
